T.S. Eliot wrote, "April is the cruellest month."
(Yes, I had to look it up to be sure.)
T.S. Eliot was wrong. It's February.
If you ride bikes in South Dakota, it's always February. The bikes are hanging in the garage or sitting on the trainer. The trainer simply mocks your insolence.
March offers some hope with occassional rideable days.
April is still a dream.
Damn you T.S. Eliot.
What is there to do? Go to the bike store, that's what. Seriously. It helps. Regardless of the calendar, a bike shop is good for the soul.
Plus, we've also got skis and snowboards so maybe there's something new for you. And gear for your fat bike.
Don't have a fat bike? How about your slightly chubby-but-still-handsome bike.
Make it an adventure and go ride where you can, whether it's the bike trail, some rideable single track or even a bike trip.
You'll feel better.
If you do have a fat bike, you can go to Spearfish. Pretty sure they have snow out there.
And if you haven't been to Cuyuna in Minnesota, it's worth the trip and it's the same distance as the Black Hills. More than 40 miles of groomed trails. Beautiful. They definitely have snow.
Fort Defiance in Estherville, Iowa, has groomed trails thanks to friends of the shop Lewie and Sally. It's a lot closer than those other two. And through some weird meteorological quirk, they HAVE SNOW!
We've got winter gear for your cold weather riding. Stop by and chat.
You'll feel better.
And remember, T.S. Eliot also wrote, "Twit twit twit / Jug jug jug jug jug jug," so what did he know.
Poetry is also good for the soul so go read the full text of "The Waste Land."
Or just listen to the poet read it.
